The Information Trust Institute (ITI) is seeking applications for a full-time Principal Research Scientist to lead major technical and research projects in the field of network and distributed system security. The Principal Research Scientist will provide recommendation and management for ITI's research initiatives, represent ITI in the national and international academic community and design and implement major software and hardware systems. Key responsibilities include:
- conduct research and development in network and distributed system security with specific focus on applying security techniques as needed in various collaborative environments important to industry and federal agencies
- provide recommendations and management for ITI's research initiatives, including the Trustworthy Cyber Infrastructure for Power (TCIP) project.
- supervise gradate students and other professional staff
- write proposals for funding to federal and industrial funding agencies and coordinate funded projects
- manage technical projects as assigned, including organizing and effectively orchestrating multi-staff and multi-team efforts, and setting and achieving technical goals, objectives, and budgets.
The successful candidate will have Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field with an emphasis on computer/system security and at least five years experience in computer/system security research and development, excellent research credentials as exemplified by a strong publication record in the security area, experience with writing successful grants to federal and other funding agencies for conducting research and development, and experience leading and managing security research and development projects.
This is a 12-month, regular academic professional position with applicable University benefits. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting date is as soon as possible after the closing date.

The Information Trust Institute (ITI) is seeking applications for a full-time research laboratory manager, software developer, and system administrator for the Power Systems Networking Laboratory in the Information Trust Institute. This is an outstanding opportunity to apply software development and technical management skills while gaining new experience in an exciting and rapidly growing research environment.
The Power Systems Networking Lab uses a mixture of commercial power system equipment and software to create a representative control network for the electrical power grid, consisting of both the power equipment that monitors and regulates the flow of electricity and the computer and communications software/hardware system that records, aggregates, and communicates data about the health of the power grid to human operators. The lab contains a mixture of cutting-edge commercial-off-the-shelf power system control hardware and software as well as multiple general-purpose computers that will be used to execute the next generation of communication and control algorithms.
Key responsibilities of the lab manager/software developer include:
- Work with students and faculty to design and implement new features that will improve performance, service-manageability, usability of the laboratory.
- Set-up, maintain and administer laboratory hardware and software. Manage implementation and integration of software/hardware design. Installing operating systems. Coordinate laboratory access and security.
- Develop software for next generation power system protection, monitoring and maintenance applications.
- Work with graduate students and faculty in conducting experiments in the laboratory and demonstrations of laboratory capabilities. Set-up and maintain testbeds within the laboratory for conducting experiments.
- Create and maintain documentation for all development. Assist in the development of user materials. Write reports and make presentations on laboratory capabilities. Document lab configurations for future reference.
- Procure equipment and software for the laboratory after due analysis of functionality, performance and cost.
- Interact with industry partners for procurement, management, and experimentation.
- Provide general software development, and computer system support for ITI projects.
The position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field and two years related work experience. Extensive knowledge of at least one major programming language (e.g., C or Java) and one scripting language (e.g., Perl, Python) is essential as is experience in Windows and UNIX/LINUX system administration, computer/network security, and firewall configurations. Web programming and design skills are desirable, and the candidate must be comfortable and/or willing to learn about wiring and electrical test equipment and about power system technologies in general.

Software Engineer Position Available

The Information Trust Institute (ITI) is seeking applicants for a full-time Software Engineer to work in a team environment with ITI faculty, graduate students and researchers on a variety of research projects. Responsibilities include research programming, software design, development, integration, maintenance and support. This position may also supervise and/or coordinate projects, as well as build collaborations with external users. The successful candidate will have enthusiasm, technical competence, the ability to quickly learn new skills, and attention to detail, which are all critical for success in this position. Communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to work independently, are also of the utmost importance. The position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related scientific field, with a preference for an advanced degree. A minimum of two years related work experience is also required.
The candidate must have significant knowledge and/or experience with application development in Java and C++. Preference will be given to candidates with the following additional skills: distributed and/or multithreaded programming, software development tools (CVS/SVN, bugzilla, wiki, etc), SQL, web development (html/css/php), shell scripting and Unix/Windows/Mac system administration, a strong mathematical background including random processes and/or differential equations.
