Information Trust Institute: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Education

One of ITI's most important goals is the improvement of education and training in the design, development, and use of trustworthy computer systems. To address continuing education in trust for practitioners in the field, ITI provides a series of short courses that can be taught on-site. The strongly trust-relevant courses at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign enable the education of future experts and practitioners. Existing practitioners can also take trust-relevant courses by visiting the campus for a semester or taking one of the courses that are taught online.

Short Course Offerings

The following short courses are available from ITI upon request. E-mail applequi AT iti.uiuc.edu for further information.

Course Roadmaps

Trust crosses a number of departments, disciplines, and areas. To aid students in identifying appropriate study sequences in trust, ITI personnel have grouped courses into the following roadmaps. A roadmap is a description of a particular focus area available to students, including descriptions of especially relevant courses. Each block in the below chart identifies a trust focus. Arrows show how different areas build on each other. A roadmap for each trust area can be accessed by clicking on its block.

Individual Study

There are many opportunities for individual study in the form of personalized reading courses or thesis preparation (at both the M.S. and Ph.D. levels). See the ITI people page for information on the ITI faculty members who are available to supervise projects in ITI-related areas.

ITI Undergraduate Summer Internship Program

Every year, ITI offers a program allowing promising undergraduate students from around the world to work with ITI researchers on 8-10 week projects on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagin. See the ITI Undergraduate Internship Program page for more information.

Other Online Resources

The following two training applets are the first online educational resources developed under the TCIP (Trustworthy Cyber Infrastructure for Power Center) project. They are aimed at students in middle and high school. They are classroom-ready and illustrate important concepts in mathematics and the science of electricity and the power grid. Additional applets will be available in the near future.
